Craftsmanship Details
Each Artisan strap undergoes a meticulous 6-hour production process:
- Leather Selection — Each hide is hand-inspected. Only sections free of scars, brand marks, and inconsistencies are selected. Approximately 30% of each hide meets our standard.
- Cutting — Precision-cut using a steel clicking die to ensure uniform dimensions across every strap.
- Edge Work — Edges are beveled with a No. 2 edger, sanded through 4 grits (220→400→600→800), then burnished with Tokonole edge finish and sealed with beeswax. This process is repeated 4 times for a glass-smooth edge.
- Stitching — Two needles, one continuous thread. Every stitch is a locked saddle stitch — if one stitch is cut, the adjacent stitches hold firm. We use HGT waxed Irish linen at 0.8mm thickness, stitched at a consistent 4mm pitch with a 2-prong diamond chisel.
- Hardware Assembly — Solid brass split rings are attached through reinforced leather loops, secured with 3 rivets per connection point. Each rivet is peened by hand and backed with a leather washer to prevent camera body scratching.
- Final Inspection — Each strap is inspected under magnification, flex-tested 50 times, and weight-tested to 25kg before receiving our serial number stamp.
About Pueblo Leather
Pueblo is a vegetable-tanned leather produced exclusively by Badalassi Carlo in Pontassieve, near Florence, Italy. The tanning process takes approximately 30 days using chestnut and quebracho bark extracts. After tanning, the leather is tumbled to create its characteristic rough, matte surface texture. This surface is what gives Pueblo its legendary patina — within weeks of regular use, the matte finish transforms into a rich, glossy surface that is unique to each owner.
Care Instructions
- No conditioning is required for the first 6 months — the natural oils from your hands will begin the patina process.
- After 6 months, apply a thin coat of Saphir Renovateur or similar neutral leather conditioner if desired.
- If the strap gets wet, allow it to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not use heat or direct sunlight.
- Store flat or loosely coiled in a breathable cloth bag when not in use for extended periods.
- The patina process is natural and desirable — scratches and marks add character and will blend into the surface over time.
